Words From the Director

SAMSON TEDESE (Director at TFL)

Greetings to you all,

My name is Samson Tadese. I am the founder and the director of The Fanos Light Education and Virtues Inc. I was born and grew up in a small town Robbe located in South Eastern part of Ethiopia. Then I moved to another nearby town called Sedika. That is where my own academic journey started, it was started from Sedika Elementary School. I earned a B.A in Language and Literature from Addis Ababa University, and began my carrier as a teacher In Ethiopia. I moved to Canada in leaving everything behind. After I moved to Canada , i decided to pursue a profession in Teaching because of my short , but meaningful teaching experience in Ethiopia. I earned another B.A from University of Winnipeg, Canada.

During my studies at The University of Winnipeg, I have learned so much as a result of the courses I took and also my student teaching experiences. I have learned about so many theories and princes of teaching , and learning which later became an inspiration for me to began this Journey. During my studies I had a chance to learn from so many educators , and my fellow students. I particularly remember one of the courses that led me to think , reflect and more importantly to ask some questions. Reflecting and studding to find answer some of the questions I decided to launch a project. Right after completing the course , I designed and lunched a project named “A Journey Back to Sedika From Winnipeg” to find some solution to some of the problem I identified. The whole experiences, the topic we raised and discussed , the reflections, the questions I asked, during that course allowed me to look back , to reflect , to analyze some of my own and other children’s academic journey, led me to design and launch this project.

The most eye opining part was to understand the importance of having access to resource, educational aid materials, tools, learning opportunities, and understanding the importance of having access to proper support system in place to support children academic journey, particularly in their formative years or in their early learning experience. Its not only the understanding of the importance of having access to resource and the support system compelled me to do launch this project , its the understanding of the amount of lack of access to these things, the lack of access to resources, educational aid materials, tools, the learning opportunity, and lack of access to proper support system, especially to schools located in rural part of Ethiopia, and beyond.

We launched the project in August 2015 with the purpose of supporting Sedika Elementary school , which is a school located in Sedika , Ethiopia. The project was specifically designed to solve the lack of access to school supplies and other educational aid materials and to establish a support system to support students coming Sedika Elementary School. Working on this project was a bit tough , but taught me so many things , and helped me acquire valuable knowledge and experience , which eventually became a source of inspiration to establish The Fanos Light Education and Virtues Inc. after completing the project.

The Fanos Light Education and Virtues Inc. is a charitable organization established with the purpose of supporting children and youth education here in Canada, Ethiopia and beyond. We believe this can be done by mobilizing our knowledge, experience to provide children and youth who are in need to have access to resources, educational aid materials, tools, a learning opportunity, and the support they need. We believe this can be done by designing proper , and meaningful programs that would facilitate learning, creativity, growth and development in their academic and life pursuit. Through the years we have accomplished so much through The Fanos Light which I am grateful about and I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported our work, and the cause we stood for. However, I believe there is more to do because the need is so great, especially when we think of children and youth in rural towns in Ethiopia and beyond.

I believe in the talents/ potential of every child. I believe all children have the potential and capacity to learn, grow, and become successful in their academic and life pursuit if they are given the resource, the educational aid materials, the tools, the learning opportunity, a conducive environment that facilitate learning, growth and progress.
“I believe together we would bring a difference in children and youth education if we work together by understanding the need , and also the potential of these children and youth. “I believe together we would bring a difference in children and youth education with a little bit of belief, compassion, sacrifice, dedication and responsibilities” My message to you is come, let’s work together to build the future of children, youth education, and build communities because together we can do more.
